Press: ‘Fahrenheit 451’ First-Look Teaser: Ray Bradbury’s Heat Turned Up For Our Times

DEADLINE – HBO Films has released the first look at Fahrenheit 451, the adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s dystopian novel that stars Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon. The premium network is bowing the pic directed by Ramin Bahrani in the spring.

Set in a world in which media is an opiate, history is outlawed and firemen are the people who burn books, Jordan plays Guy Montag, a fireman who forsakes his world pitting him in a battle with his mentor Beatty (Shannon). Sofia Boutella and Lilly Singh co-star.

As Bahrani said at TCA last month, while Bradbury set his story in the distant future, the movie is set in “alternate tomorrow, right here right now” — Beatty refers to “the Internet of old” in the teaser. He says the story’s themes are even more relevant today in an age when most only read the headlines.

Bahrani co-wrote the script with Amir Naderi and executive produces with Sarah Green, Jordan, Alan Gasmer and Peter Jaysen executive produce. David Coatsworth is producer.

“As we continue to build Global Road’s inaugural film slate, we look for thought-provoking projects that will captivate audiences, and have strong potential for expanded content opportunities through film and television,” he said. “We have found that in ‘Hotel Artemis’ and are thrilled to add Drew’s incredible film with its unbelievably talented cast to the company’s growing roster of films. Charlize Theron and director David Leitch will be on hand at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego for an exclusive screening of Atomic Blonde. The Cold War-era spy thriller made its debut at South by Southwest earlier this year, but before it hits theaters nationwide on July 28, Comic-Con attendees will get a chance to be among the first to see the film.

Theron stars in Atomic Blonde as the British spy Lorraine Broughton, a tough-as-nails agent working in ‘80s Berlin. “I hadn’t seen another character like her out there,” Theron told EW earlier this year. “She doesn’t apologize for anything. We made her strong and feisty. She’s cheeky. These were all things I responded to.”

The Atomic Blonde screening will be held at UA Horton Plaza 8 at 8 p.m. on July 22. Seating is first-come, first-served, and it’s open to all SDCC badge holders ages 21 and over.

It doesn’t appear that Sofia will attend but I’ll keep an eye out for her.

Universal To Celebrate ‘The Mummy Day’ With Tom Cruise & 75-Foot Sarcophagus Takeover

It’s happening: Universal Pictures in conjunction with RealD has announced that Saturday, May 20 at 12 noon will be deemed The Mummy Day in celebration of its upcoming June 9 Tom Cruise tentpole. A 75-foot, 7-ton sarcophagus will be unveiled at Hollywood & Highland with Tom Cruise taking the stage with director Alex Kurtzman, and co-stars Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella and Jake Johnson.

In addition at the Los Angeles famed Hollywood & Highland venue will be the The Mummy VR Zero Gravity Stunt Experience and The Mummy Escape Game.

The sarcophagus is the largest single vertical structure ever assembled at the gateway and took two firms a total of eight weeks to construct, and scores of workers more than 160 hours to install. To prepare Princess Ahmanet’s sarcophagus for its revealing on The Mummy Day, the tomb required 18 wide-load tractor trailers to move all of the elements into place.

“The Mummy has been such a labor of love for the hundreds of cast and crew who have worked for the past few years preparing its big-screen launch,” said Kurtzman in a statement. “When we built Princess Ahmanet’s sarcophagus for production, we had no idea that a 15,000-pound replica of her ‘eternal’ resting place would one day find its home at the intersection of Hollywood & Highland. I can’t wait to celebrate her story with the fans on May 20.”

The Mummy Zero Gravity Stunt VR Experience, which was on display at CinemaCon, goes behind the scenes with Cruise and Wallis as they perform the intense Zero G stunt as seen in The Mummy. The Mummy Escape Game is an immersive 10-player live-action experience, whereby guests are recruited as security guards to solve interactive puzzles to save mankind from the revenge of an ancient princess who has awakened.
